Naidoc Week
This week we come together for NAIDOC Week to bring into focus the need for stronger measures to protect and maintain the culture and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2021 theme, Heal Country, calls for all of us to continue to seek stronger measures to recognise, protect and maintain all aspects of the First Nations’ culture and heritage.
As civil contractors we recognise the significance of the work we perform on land and sea, and our role in respecting and protecting the environment we operate in. We do this through early engagement and understanding of Indigenous people’s connections to our project sites, and the implementation of stringent on-site practices to ensure we protect the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island heritage. We seek opportunities to engage traditional owners, grow businesses and build careers for First Nation’s people.
Ertech’s continued commitment
At Ertech we are proud of the achievements in engaging and developing Indigenous people.
For over 10 years, through the Ertech Construction Academy, Ertech has invested in providing opportunities for youth, and in particular Indigenous youth, to gain skills to forge a career in the civil construction industry. The Motivation Foundation, as it is known today, is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to educate and develop life and employability skills for students enrolled in Year 11, 12 or equivalent from diverse backgrounds.
“Many of the Motivation Foundation students are growing up in difficult circumstances and face ongoing challenges as a result of disadvantage and disengagement. We are committed to supporting each student with a holistic approach that caters to their individual needs whilst preparing them with the tools required to succeed in industry.” said Ertech CEO, James Giumelli.
Engaging Indigenous Businesses and People
Ertech is committed to identifying opportunities to engage Indigenous business and people on all projects we undertake across all regions we operate in.
Together we’ve achieved some fantastic outcomes over the years where our clients and broader stakeholders have been equally committed to delivering on Indigenous participation commitments.
At Ertech, being authentic is one of our key values, and this means being genuine about our intent and and following through on our promises. We continue to strive to find ways to close the gap for the Indigenous people of Australia.
