motivation foundation

The Motivation Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that began as the Ertech Construction Academy in 2008.

The Foundation aims to educate and develop life and employability skills for school students enrolled in Year 11, 12 or equivalents from diverse backgrounds. Students are offered the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Certificate II in Civil Construction and Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation, through on-site training and workplace experience while still in high school.

The History

For over 30 years Ertech has been engaged in developing and enhancing communities through its many civil construction projects both locally and regionally. The Ertech Construction Academy began with the primary aim of teaching young people to become job-ready in a civil construction environment by acquiring civil construction skills including pipe laying and machine operation.

Initially aimed at young people from diverse backgrounds and targeting Indigenous trainees, the Academy was conceived by our Founding Director, Jim Giumelli and run and underwritten by Ertech. By the time students graduated from the Academy, they received a Certificate II in Civil Construction to complement their WA Certificate of Education (WACE) as well as Certificates of Competency to operate construction equipment such as a skid steer loader, excavator or roller.

In 2010, Ertech’s Broome North residential and commercial subdivision projects gave us the opportunity to establish a satellite Training Academy in the region for Indigenous trainees. This satellite academy provided a structured Aboriginal Participant Development Pathway for Indigenous job seekers aged over 18 years old. Students entered into a four-week work readiness program and then a ten-week training program leading to a Certificate II in Civil Construction.

Since its inception in 2008, over 130 students have graduated from the Ertech Construction Academy. With the aim of increasing student numbers and becoming more sustainable, the academy’s operation has now been taken over by the Motivation Foundation and is known as the Motivation Civil & Mining Academy.

Ertech continues to support the Academy as a major sponsor.
