The Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront Project was a joint effort between the City of Bunbury and South West Development Commission and funded through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Growing Our South Initiative. The project will be carried out in three stages:

  • Revitalisation of Koombana Bay foreshore and redevelopment of the Dolphin Discovery Centre
  • Landscaping along Casuarina Drive, upgrades to Jetty Road causeway and a service corridor
  • The creation of a marina and marine industry facilities at Casuarina Boat Harbour.

Ertech completed the first stage and this scope involves:

  • Demolition works
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Construction of new parking areas
  • Construction of new access roads
  • Reconstruction and upgrade of a pedestrian bridge over The Plug
  • Construction of a rock revetment, to protect the adjacent Dolphin Discovery Centre from coastal processes
  • Construction of an amphitheatre
  • Installation of new water, gas and sewer services
  • Installation of power and lighting
  • soft and hard landscaping works
  • Refurbishment of the existing kiosk building and public facilities
  • Installation of park furniture, shade structures, playground equipment
  • Temporary works as necessary

This project has won the following awards:

  • The City of Bunbury has been honoured with the Park of Year award for the Koombana Foreshore redevelopment. 
  • Along with Cardno (WA) Pty Ltd the City was recognised for the multi-million dollar project at the Parks and Leisure WA Awards of Excellence for 2018.
  • The City of Bunbury (in association with Cardno WA Pty Ltd) was honoured in March 2019 with an Award for Annual Achievement for the Koombana Bay Foreshore redevelopment.  The award was announced at the 2019 Australian Coastal Awards at the Australian Coastal Councils Conference in Kiama, New South Wales.
